POKE pedia

Sources & Methodology

What is Pokepedia?

Pokepedia is an independent project that brings together technical and competitive Pokémon data in one place. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Nintendo, Game Freak, The Pokémon Company, or Smogon University.

Where the data comes from

PokeAPI ↗

Base data for every Pokémon, move, ability and item: species, stats, default types, descriptions and evolution chains.

Pokémon Showdown ↗

"Current" types and base stats (after official nerfs/buffs) when they differ from PokeAPI, and the legal ability list per Pokémon.

Smogon University ↗

Competitive tier and recommended team sets per format, aggregated from real usage on Pokémon Showdown.

How data is normalized

A response from an external API is never shown as-is: it passes through a selection layer that decides, with explicit and non-arbitrary rules, which text and language to display. When a source has no entry in your language, the most reliable available language is used, and that is flagged where relevant.

When a source has an error

External sources aren’t perfect. When we find a verified error in the upstream data (for example, a Spanish translation that actually belongs to a different item), we document and correct it instead of showing it as-is.

Report an error

If you spot incorrect data, you can report it directly from the relevant Pokémon, move, ability or item page, or open an issue on GitHub.
